The NSW Seamless Geology is a statewide GIS* geodatabase developed by the Geological Survey of NSW (GSNSW) containing the best-available regional geological mapping of the state. It seamlessly combines over 450 of the best-available maps and is divided into a series of overlapping geological time slices representing the major basement, basin, volcanic and cover sequences of NSW. With over 60 million polygonal and line vertices and 85 attribution fields available, it is one of the most comprehensive geological mapping databases ever released.

It is available free of charge from the DIGS online document archive in multiple GIS formats, and can be accessed and navigated using the MinView online GIS viewer.

Join Dr Gary Colquhoun and Dr John Greenfield from the Geological Survey of NSW as they briefly describe the state’s geology, how to access and self-navigate the NSW Seamless Geology, and what is new in the latest release.

*GIS = Geographic Information System. Software that can manage, present and analyse spatial or geographic data.
