A Short Course For Mineral Explorationists

GEOCHEMICAL SIGNATURES OF PORPHYRY COPPER-GOLD DEPOSITS IN THE LACHLAN FOLD BELT, NSW

Course Overview

This hands-on practical geochemistry workshop using ioGAS, will focus on East Lachlan porphyry copper systems, which will show case:

  • the pathfinder element footprints of porphyry deposits.
  • predicting alteration mineralogy from 4 acid digest ICP analyses.
  • tracking fractionation processes in porphyry-Cu related magmas from 4 acid digest ICP analyses.

Together, these techniques are designed to help exploration geologists extract the maximum amount of information from their drill hole geochemical data

The future of mineral exploration is searching for deposits undercover and geochemical data analysis will play an increasingly important role in exploration success.

Explorationists must be comfortable using geochemical data sets and understand what they can and cannot tell us about the geological environment

Scott has consulted to more than 150 mining and exploration companies in more than 25
countries in the last fourteen years. Having worked as an exploration geologist for 20 years prior to specialising as a geochemist means that Scott understands how geochemistry can be
practically and effectively applied to exploration and mining problems. Advances in technology
mean that there are significant changes in the quality of commercially available geochemical and
mineralogical analysis methods every few years. One of Scott’s aims is to ensure that his clients are using the most appropriate methods and deriving the full benefit from their data.

NB Registrations close 10/7/2023. Places are limited to 40 people.

Attendees will need to bring their own computer. Prior experience with ioGAS is helpful but not essential.
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.

  • Course Structure

    1 day workshop, 20/7/2023

    • Hands on use of ioGAS software
    • Understand of the geochemical footprints for the Cadia, North Parkes, Cowal, Mt Adrah, Cu Hill, and Myall deposits
    • Understanding of the magmatic process to that have led to the formation of these deposits

    • Self-guided notes will be provided.
    • Introduction to data analysis with ioGAS
    • Understand how to use of geochemical data to vector towards porphyry copper deposits.
