Discovery of a new VMS District at Cardinia, Leonora WAKin Mining engaged Model Earth to assess the VMS prospectivity of the Cardinia Gold Project where 1.54 MOz of Au had been defined by Kin Mining before selling 0.61 MOz of those resources to Genesis Minerals. An initial assessment of 48-element geochemistry at the Cardinia Hill and surrounding deposits concluded that samples with a VMS pathfinder suite are present in the area of gold focussed drilling with grades of up to 0.8% Zn and 1.3% Cu. A hole that was not assayed for the 48-element suite was inspected at the suggestion of the project geologist and short intervals of high-grade sphalerite-pyrite massive sulphide (up to 21% Zn by pXRF) were recognised in an interval of 5.7m @ 5.3% Zn, 0.34% Cu, 0.3% Pb, 40ppm Ag, 1.00ppm Au from 270.3m down-hole, including: 0.7m @ 10% Zn and 77ppm Ag from 270.3m down-hole. This is the first VMS mineralisation that has been identified in a belt of volcano-sedimentary strata that extends for more than 50 km, representing an exciting greenfields exploration opportunity. SpeakerCarl Brauhart Carl has over thirty years industry experience and has particular expertise, at all scales, in orogenic gold, lithium, magmatic nickel, porphyry copper, VHMS and sediment-hosted Pb-Zn mineral systems. Particular experiences are listed in Carl’s resumé, and include many orogenic gold deposits and districts, particularly in the Yilgarn, a number of magmatic nickel sulphide districts in the Yilgarn, lithium-pegmatite fields in the Pilbara and Yilgarn Cratons, Anaconda-style mapping and core logging at the Jebel Ohier porphyry copper deposit in Sudan, various VHMS districts including regional alteration mapping of the Panorama VHMS camp in the Pilbara and long-term geochemical and fieldwork consulting on the DeGrussa Project for Sandfire Resources, and basin-hosted Pb-Zn systems in the Kimberley.
