The Hemi Gold Deposits, using geochemistry to help understand stratigraphy, structure, geometallurgy and a lot more in betweenWednesday, 17 July 2024 The discovery of the Hemi gold deposits has transformed the perception of the gold exploration potential of the Pilbara. From stratigraphy and structure through to alteration and metallurgy, the investment in high quality geochemistry from the beginning has created a foundational dataset that has been instrumental in helping to unlock our understanding of both the deposits and the district. SpeakerIn the past 30 years Allan Kneeshaw has worked across a diverse range of commodities and geological terranes with companies like MIM Exploration, Acacia Resources, AngloGold Ashanti, Anglo American and most recently De Grey Mining. From starting in the industry as a driller’s offsider after failing school in the late 80’s and later graduating from Curtin University in the mid-90’s, he discovered a passion for geology that has not waned. Allan completed a MSc in Economic Geology from CODES investigating the early deformational history of the Laverton greenstone belt in W.A. Whilst volcanology and structural geology have always been his main interest, he was surprised to find himself something of an accidental geochemist in the last 5 years working on the Hemi gold deposits and other projects in W.A.
