AIG, AusIMM, GSA Technical Meeting: Aeromagnetics, Geology and Exploration: Adelaide NSW

1 CPD HourJoint AIG – AusIMM – GSA Technical meeting

Speaker:  David Isles, Senior Consulting Geophysicist, Southern Geoscience Consultants

Aeromagnetic data has been a significant part of the exploration and mapping landscape for over 30 years, but we still do not use it well. About 50% of the exploration value is ‘left on the table’ in most surveys because we allocate too little time and geological thinking to interpretation/integration.

David’s talk will illustrate the key steps in the integration of aeromagnetics with geology and emphasises the need for project personnel to drive this process (as opposed to relying on ‘specialists’). A gold exploration case study on a well exposed and well mapped prospect area in the NT is presented, along with some Yilgarn Block examples. Local imagery and exploration issues will be included in the talk.
