EcoForum Conference and Exhibition

EcoForum Conference and Exhibition

EcoForum Conference and Exhibition is being organised by ALGA, the Australian Land and Groundwater Association, to be held at Jupiters Casino on Queensland’s Gold Coast in October 2014.

Professor Tim Flannery will be a notable keynote for the breakfast session, Friday 31st October 2014.

Prof Flannery is one of Australia’s leading thinkers and writers. A scientist, explorer and conservationist he has published more than 130 peer reviewed scientific papers and many books.

He was described by Sir David Attenborough as one of the great explorers, and as a scientist who’s discovered more new species than Charles Darwin.

His landmark works The Future Eaters and The Weather Makers have changed the way we think about the environmental challenges facing the world.

He spent a year teaching at Harvard, and in 2006 he co-founded and was appointed Chair of the Copenhagen Climate Council.

Named Australian of the Year in 2007, he works with governments and business in North America, Asia and Europe on climate change action.

From 2011 to 2013 he was Australia’s Chief Climate Commissioner, and now serves as Chair of Australia’s Climate Council.

While our bi-annual conference “EcoForum 2014” may seem a long way off, begin planning to attend now, so that you don’t miss out!
Call for Abstracts

The Abstract Submission Deadline is 15th March 2014.

Submitting an Abstract

Overview. This illustrates the format for abstracts to be considered for placement in the program of the 29-31 October 2014EcoForum Conference and Exhibition. Refer to the Call for Abstracts for major session themes and example topics. Abstracts cannot exceed one page, and are to be submitted as Microsoft® Word files. For maximum opportunity for program placement, abstracts should be on-topic, based on the conference themes, demonstrate the value of the material to the audience and submitted no later than 15th March, 2014. Given that a large number of abstracts will be received for review, each should be well-written and clearly and concisely outline the material proposed for presentation. Abstracts with a pronounced commercial or marketing tone will not be accepted. Abstracts that have been presented at previous EcoForum or CleanUp conferences may also not be accepted. The prescribed headings will enable reviewers to quickly comprehend the scope of the work, evaluate the proposed presentation, compare it with others on similar topics, and, if accepted for the program, assign it to a platform or poster slot.

Presentation formats
• Oral presentation (15 mins + panel discussion)
• Poster presentation

How are abstracts selected?
Your abstract must be in plain English and clearly define the objectives, status, methodology, findings and significance of the investigation or study. Your submitted abstract will be reviewed by the session co-ordinators and a conference organising committee member. The presenter decisions will be announced in May 2014.

Will my abstract be published?
You will be notified whether or not your abstract has been accepted into the program. If it is an accepted presentation (oral or poster), the title will be included in the published preliminary program and the abstract will be published on the event website. Submitting an abstract is considered as your acceptance of these terms.

What do I need to pay if I am accepted?
Every presenter (oral and/or poster) is required to register as a paying delegate and attend the conference. If you’re presenting, you are eligible for discounted registration fees. Presenters are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Presenters who do not register will be replaced. You do not need to be a member of ALGA to present, but members receive larger discounts on registration fees and receive other membership benefits.
