Exploration Clues from Aeromagnetic Data- Are you missing them?

Talk presented by David Isles for ASEG Queensland Branch

The meeting has been kindly sponsored by Carpentaria Exploration.

Despite an abundance of high quality aeromagnetic data, we rarely get ‘true exploration value’ from the technique.  Dave presents three case histories that show the benefit of spending time and thinking geology when interpreting aeromagnetics.  These critical aspects of the interpretation process are simple, empirical and really only require enthusiasm for the exploration task.  The approach applies for all types of mapping and exploration and the examples presented (Yilgarn Gold, Amadeus Basin hydrocarbons and Midland Ireland Pb-Zn) give an interesting spread of aeromagnetic expressions and exploration applications.

About the Speaker:

Dave is a graduate of Melbourne and Adelaide Universities and has spent 40 years as an exploration geophysicist, focused mainly in ‘hard-rock’ environments.  He has specialised in aeromagnetics for much of that time working with BHP Minerals, World Geoscience and in recent years as an independent consultant and provider of training courses.
