Presented by the Hunter Earth Sciences Discussion Group (HEDG)

An Earth Science Week event
2016 theme: Our shared geoheritage

nsw-geoheritage

nsw-governmentNSW has abundant sites of geoheritage significance. The first report on them was done in 1978-79 by speaker Dr Ian Percival for the Australian Heritage Commission. A lot has happened to some of these sites over the intervening 38 years. Ian will review most of the sites, leading the audience on a tour through some of the state’s most iconic geological localities.

Dr Trudi Semeniuk will discuss recent work on geoheritage, and the need for a systematic statewide review of these sites to conserve the geoheritage and geodiversity of NSW.

The speakers

Dr Ian Percival is a palaeontologist who is also keenly interested in the protection, preservation and promotion of the state’s geoheritage. Dr Trudi Semeniuk’s expertise covers many areas of earth science. Her interest in geoheritage stems from a passion for conserving geological sites for teaching and for future generations.
