PHIL THOMAS
Phil graduated from ANU in Geology in 1979 specialising in S and I type granites with Dr Bruce Chappell. Phil gained a Masters Degree from Monash University in Business Marketing and subsequently lectured at the Monash Business School in decision support analysis and strategy.
Phil has worked in a number of financial decision making roles, in the minerals and other industries including time at Macquarie Bank, ABN-Amro, Watson-Wyatt Actuaries, and Admiralty Resources and Arrowstar Resources as CEO. Phil is President of Panopus Plc based in Hong Kong and Gurtan Pty Ltd based in Melbourne. He specializes in project valuations, risk and decision support analysis, and provides geological consulting services that include valuations and capital raising for mineral projects, notably iron ore and lithium. Phil is a Director and Member of the Australasian Institute of Mineral Valuers and Appraisers, and Member of the AIG.
DR CARLOS SORENTINO
Carlos is an engineering economist specialising in the analysis of capital decisions, the economic evaluation of businesses, the quantitative analysis of risk of existing and new mineral ventures, and complex economic and corporate studies.
Over the past twenty years, Carlos has researched and published a comprehensive set of risk analysis methodologies to quantify the uncertainties of investing in the resources and energy sectors. These advanced, state-of-the-art quantitative methodologies apply to the:
• Evaluation of stochastic business risks
• Econometric modelling of capital decisions under uncertainty
• Benchmarking of business performance
• Operational analysis and optimization of costs and revenues
• Business profitability analysis
• Valuation of exploration and mine deposits
Carlos obtained his PhD with a dissertation in mineral economics from Macquarie University. He holds a Master of Environmental Studies, a Diploma in Radioisotope Technology and a BSc in Chemical Engineering. Carlos is a Fellow of AusIMM, a Member of MICA, and a Member of the American Chemical Society. He is a Chartered Professional (Management and Environment).
Carlos was the foundation Chairman, Board of Chartered Professionals of the AusIMM 2000-2006. Carlos is a Director, Secretary and Member of the Australasian Institute of Mineral Valuers and Appraisers.
