The Las Bambas skarn Porphyry Cu/Mo deposit is located in the Andahauaylas-Yauri Belt of southeastern Peru. The mineralization occurs within a series of garnet + pyroxene exo- and endo skarns surrounding Eocene to Oligocene dioritic, monzodioritic, and monzonitic stocks related to the major Andahuaylas Batholith. Bornite and chalcopyrite are the predominant Cu sulfides occurring largely within quartz veins or infilling pockets within partially retrogressed coarse grained skarn. The three major deposits (Ferrobamba, Chalcobamba and Sulfobamba) also have associated Cu sulfide mineralisation hosted within altered porphyritic intrusives. Retrogressive alteration associated with Cu mineralization consists of specularite, epidote, amphibole, and locally clay minerals. Host rocks to the skarn mineralization is the Cretaceous Ferrobamba Formation comprising a sequence of carbonates with shaley intercalations deposited in a back arc environment. A strong structural control on the mineralization is evident and this same structural control has acted to localize suites of syn and post mineral felsic dykes.

About the Presenter

A highly experienced exploration and mine geologist with extensive field based technical knowledge and familiarity with a large number of mineralised terranes and individual mineral deposits on four continents. Particular areas of expertise include Porphyry Cu/Au and skarns, Archean Lode gold systems and low/high sulfidation epithermal gold/silver deposits as well as base metal and Fe oxide Cu/Au systems in Proterozoic and younger terranes.

These accomplishments are complemented by wide experience in the mining industry ranging from project generation and grassroots exploration to resource definition and management at executive level. Marcus has worked as a consultant for many years but also held various senior positions at Anglovaal Limited (in South Africa, Zambia, and Namibia), and based in Australia with; Delta Gold, Aurion Gold, IAMGOLD, Kingsgate Consolidated, OZ Minerals, Pasminco, and MMG.
