MEGWA August 2023 MeetingNamibia’s world-class uranium province: new insights to an old paradigmMajor uranium deposits are hosted within the Damara orogen close to the coastal town of Swakopmunf, Namibia. This uranium province has been incredibly productive over the last four decades. There are two principal types of uranium mineralisation. This talk focusses on the leucogranite (alaskite) hosted mineralisation (e.g. Rössing, Husab, Omahola, Etango). The other type is hosted within sediments of paleochannels (e.g. Langer Heinrich, Tumas). The standard model for the mineralisation is based on a specific uranium rich melt that originated from partial melting under granulite facies conditions. This talk expands the previous ideas and explores the influence of magmatic fluids in forming uranium mineralisation.
