Presented by

Dr. Roger Taylor and Dr. Richard Lilly

Dr Roger Taylor has been involved with the exploration industry for over 50 years operating as a practicing exploration / mine geologist and academic as Director of the Economic Geology Research Unit at James Cook University (1993-1998).
More recent activities include international consulting to numerous global mining companies, further development of a range of professional development courses, and petrological services. Major publications include books on tin deposits, ore textures-breccias, and gossans / leached outcrops. Major interests are magmatic related deposits, including tin, wolfram, porphyry copper, IOCG, and epithermal systems.

Co-Presented by
Dr. Richard Lilly is a senior exploration geologist with over 20 years experience spanning the industry-academia boundary. Working for Mount Isa Mines (2007-2015) and as an Embedded Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide he has coordinated and supervised >65 applied research investigations on a diverse range of ore deposits from North West Queensland to South Australia.

NExUS-Professional Development (NExUS-PD) workshops are very proud to be able to offer Roger Taylors highly regarded Ore Textures and Breccias workshop in an online format.

This classic course introduces the fundamentals of ore texture recognition (Day 1) and the recognition of breccias and breccia components (Day 2).

The workshop will be co-presented by Dr. Richard Lilly and ore textures from a range of deposits will be reviewed and discussed as case studies as part of this fully updated and revised workshop.

Day 1, Ore Textures (Thursday 24th March)

9-11am: Infill – Recognition. Including channelway recognition, veins
12-2pm: Alteration. Including textures, types, recognition, layer control, overprinting textures
3-5pm: Infill and Alteration in a structural context. Including brittle fracture, dissemination, stockworks, shears. Followed by discussion.

Day 2, Breccias (Friday 25th March)

9-11am : Overprinting (Paragenesis). Understanding overprinting textures plus breccia intro
12-2pm : Breccia 1. Including recognition and field observation principles and breccia components.
3-5pm : Breccia 2. Including analysis of classification systems, field approach and exploration overview. Followed by discussion.
