Presented by Barney Stevens & Graham Teale
Monday 9th – Friday 13th April 2018
Five Field Days
Distinctive “lode horizons” will be visited and discussed with regard to their geochemistry, petrology and petrogenesis. These will include blue quartz-gahnite, garnetite, quartz-garnet-apatite, BIF, and quartz-sillimanite rock. Core samples from all lodes/lenses will be available to view at your leisure.
Field traverses and site visits will include:
Most evenings there will be PowerPoint presentations of various aspects of the general Curnamona mineralisation as well as more specific presentations on geology, mineralisation and alteration.
Barney Stevens
Brian (Barney) Stevens led the Geological Survey of NSW geological and metallogenic mapping of the Broken Hill district. Worked on Broken Hill and the Curnamona Craton since 1970. Involved in research into origins of the metamorphic rock types, geochronology, whole rock geochemistry, ore genesis, aeromagnetic and seismic interpretation and the structure and sedimentology of the metamorphic sequence. As a consultant/contract geologist, Barney has worked on prospect evaluation, including detailed mapping, exploration geochemistry and drilling.
Graham Teale
Graham Teale has over 40 years experience as a mineral exploration, mining and research geologist. He is currently carrying out research with Prof. Paul Spry of Iowa State University on the world class Broken Hill Deposit. He has worked on metamorphosed base metal mineralisation throughout Australia and in Africa, North America, India and Scandinavia. He has presented workshops on primary litho-geochemistry, low sulphur zinc mineralisation and IOCG mineralisation.
