Talk title: Recent advances in gold/copper exploration techniques as illustrated by case histories in the Charters Towers district.

 


Speaker

Simon Beams

Simon is a First Class Honours Graduate in Geology from the Australian National University (1975), and a PhD in Geology from La Trobe University (1980).

For the past 34 years he has been Managing Director and Principal Geologist of Terra Search, a multi-client geological consultancy, based in Townsville and Perth, with a professional geological and technical support staff of 50 to 60. Dr Beams has been directly involved in managing many mineral exploration and evaluation programs across Northern Australia, leading to mineral discoveries and some mines, primarily base metals and gold but including uranium, phosphate, bauxite, magnetite & oil shale amongst others. In 2016, Simon was awarded the John Campbell Miles Medal by the Queensland Divisions of the Geological Society of Australia and the Australian Institute of Geosciences for contributions to economic geology, exploration technology and mineral discovery in Queensland.

Simon has been involved with several major exploration data management projects across Australia and PNG. He has had a long history of collaborative involvement with the GSQ in producing regional geological maps and research projects in the Charters Towers district. Simon has served several decades on the Economic Geology Research Unit (EGRU) Advisory Board of James Cook University, and is an active member of the Queensland Advisory Committee for AMEC (Australian Mining and Exploration Companies).
