Recent pollution incidences and the substantial clean-up costs serve as a warning to landowners and business operators to review their insurance coverage. General industrial insurance policies which you would assume would provide protection, usually give little protection for these events.
Environmental insurance policies can not only protect operators, but can also be used to provide effective risk transfer for known and unknown pollution on a site. These policies can be an effective tool to support property transactions and brownfield development on land which would otherwise be placed in the ‘too hard’ basket.
